Current Programs
Lak Daruwo Network conducts several educational and other building programs in our centers. The educational programs we have are designed to complement what students learn in school and to fill the gaps in their education so that they will grow up to become resourceful citizens to Sri Lanka. The scholarship program we have recently started is aimed mainly at rewarding students who show exceptional progress and to providing financial assistance to children who can not carry on with our educational programs without such help.

We also have programs to promote extra curricular activities, team spirit, and good ethics. We have realized that formal education alone does not build a complete person. Therefore, we organize these other activities to make these children adhere to excellent social behavior. Children's behavior is mainly shaped by the environment they grow up, and the Lak Daruwo team tries to provide the right environment for our children to grow up, by organizing all these programs. We have experienced in Lak Daruwo that, younger students are more receptive to these changes we introduce to their life in order to make them better. Seniors, who have already grown-up in an unguided environment, are the most reluctant to change from our programs.

Lak Daruwo plans to increase some of the special programs in the future since we have seen them very effective. These programs also need more financial resources to implement, and we hope that we will get enough support for that.

Our current programs are:
  1. English Language Education program -- This is an on-going program implemented in all the centers.

  2. Technology Education program -- Implemented partially depending on the computer facilities available.

  3. Voluntary work -- These activities are done several times a year during the school vacations.

  4. Dancing and music - Started recently in our Attanagalla center.

  5. Field trips --Selected students from a center visit another center and spend few days there so that they get to know each other and learn to work with each other.

  6. Education camps and workshops --These are organized to give children extra exposure to what we already teach them. We are trying to organize more of these programs with the help of individuals and groups of professionals, other voluntary organizations, and the universities and higher education centers in Sri Lanka.

We plan to implement more programs for our children with the help of professionals. Guiding and motivating the children according to the talents they show are a main task in our agenda.
