"Year End Presentations 2003" Event at Embilipitiya
End of year 2003, Lak Daruwo children of Embilipitiya presented their first "Year End Presentations" event. Compared to our Attanagalla center, children in Embilipitiya center who live in an extreme rural area in Sri Lanka had much more difficulties organizing this event. However, with the help of the temple and the teacher, they managed to host a satisfactory event on the 7th of December, 2003.

All the students of our newest center in Meegammana, Kandy also participated in this event. They also did a presentation and a drama, which stood among the best items presented during the event. The excellent progress they have achieved during last few months was clearly evident during this event.

This event also mainly focused on presenting the English language skills to the audience. Students from all the groups participated in presentations during this event. The focus here was to improve the ability of children to present their ideas and findings to the rest of the people and to improve the ability to talk in English in front of an audience without fear. These are abilities that all these children lacks and would never get from the formal education in schools. Lak Daruwo team guides and helps these children on selecting topics and conducting research to preparing of the presentations. These are prepared as multimedia presentations and are done using multimedia projectors during the event. By doing so, we also expose children to use the latest technologies which are used by professionals. Presentations in Embilipitiya was done by group of 5-6 children so that many (Embilipitiya has the largest Lak Daruwo group. ) had a chance to participate in this activity. This approach also promoted them to work as teams doing research on given topics.

During the event children of our Embilipitiya center presented two presentations:

1. The history of the Sankapala Purana Rajamaha Vihara - The purpose of this presentation is to educate the audience on the historical importance of their temple. Many historical aspects of the temple were discussed with showing pictures when required.

2. Waulpane Cave - In this presentation, children described the importance and the history of a cave with natural calcium deposits. This cave is located close to Embilipitiya area.

Children from the center in Meegammana, Kandy did an excellent presentation on environment and our role in protecting it. They have done research using the internet and encyclopedia software, and the presentation showed their remarkable language skills too.

The music, drama items, and dances were presented during this event. Use of English language in the dramas was one of the highlights of the whole event. Children, who could not even speak a sentence in English a year ago, showed the progress they had achieved with the help of Lak Daruwo education programs.
