In Lak Daruwo our goal is not just to assist these children to get a better education since education alone does not build a complete person. Building capable and resourceful people for our motherland involves a lot more than formal education. Also, not all the children are willing to use their talents to meet the challenges ahead of them. Therefore, we want to get the best and most courageous children who are willing to face those challenges and then guild them in the right path. To achieve these objectives, Lak Daruwo employs a strict selection policy to select children for its programs. We use the following criteria to determine the suitability of a child for our programs.
1. Education in the school
Children should do well in the school. Lak Daruwo is not a replacement for school education. It only supplements the school education.
2. Attitude and willingness of the children.
Children should be hard working and willing to face the challenges of the future. Many of these children are coming from very rural environments where the social atmosphere is different to the world they are planning to step into with Lak Daruwo. To integrate into new or different social structures require them to have the right attitude. Most of these rural children have a very backward attitude, and, if they are not ready to change, Lak Daruwo will not be able to help them. Willingness is a very important factor too. They should be willing to take chances and break barriers in life they are used to and work hard to bring success to themselves and to the country
3. Family background and the parents.
Family background is important since it shapes the behavior of a child. Lak Daruwo team does not have time and resources to support children of non corporative parents. We would only do exceptions for special cases. We have experienced many problems from the parents of some children in the past. Also, on many occasions we engage in educational and social activities that are new to both parents and children, and some parents are reluctant to have their children participate in these activities. Therefore, we only get children who have parents willing to accept our policies and committed to work with us in order to bring up their children successfully.
We explain our goals and intentions to the parents and children clearly before we start working with the children. Once enrolled into our programs, the children are evaluated at least twice a month based on participation and educational progress. After implementing these new policies, we have now found an excellent group of children who are motivated by our programs to work diligently towards the improvement of their skills.
