"Year End Presentations 2003" Event at Attanagalla
The Year End Presentations Event for year 2003 at Attanagalla was held on the 6th of December, 2003. These kind of year-end events are organized mainly to give children a chance to present their skills and talents acquired during that year to their parents and other invitees. Year 2003 event was the second for Attanagalla center. These events are carried out completely using English language except for few native songs and dance items. The teachers and the students of Attanagalla center organized this event with the guidance of strategy team , and Mr. Sanjeewa Samaranayake, the national coordinator. Mr. Nuwan Samaranayake and Mr. Anurudha Kulathunga also attended this event. Children from the Lak Daruwo Matale center also participated in this event. They presented several music and dance items during the event.

The event mainly focused on presenting the English language skills to the audience. We use different techniques to achieve this. Students of the senior groups usually do presentations based on research activities done during the year. The focus here is to improve the ability of children to present their ideas and findings to the rest of the people. We consider this ability an essential skill that many Sri Lankans lacks. Lak Daruwo team guides and helps selected students on conducting research and preparing for presentations. These are prepared as multimedia presentations and are done using multimedia projectors during the event. By doing so, we also expose children to use the latest technologies to present their ideas in a more pleasing manner. These presentations are usually prepared and presented by a group of 3-4 children. This approach also promotes them to work as teams to do research on given topics.

During this event, senior group at Attanagalla center made three presentations:

Nishan Buddhika giving a presentation about "Effectiveness of the Lak Daruwo Program"
1. Effectiveness of the Lak Daruwo Program - Children used questionnaire, grading from our Lak Daruwo evaluations, attendance, etc. for this research project. They also identified the problems and proposed solutions to those problems. Lak Daruwo team also learned many things from this presentation.

2. Impact of Television on Lak Daruwo Children - The purpose of this research and presentation was to find out what television programs children watch and the impact of those programs on the education of the children. Based on the findings, recommendations were presented, that indicated which programs have more positive impact on children of Lak Daruwo.

3. Electronic Money - This was done to introduce the concepts and usage of Electronic Money to the audience. Electronic Money (Credit cards, transfers, etc) are new to villages in Sri Lanka and the purpose of this presentation was to educate the audience on this area.

In addition to these presentations, many musical and dance and drama items were also presented. Most of them were conducted in English. These items were arrange and prepared solely by teachers and the children of the center. They have done a remarkable job in arranging these items with limited resource they had.
